The government of Pakistan gives a new heartache gift to the nation in the form of doubled up sales tax on the purchase of new mobile phones, smartphones and handsets. With the commencement of the new budget for the fiscal year 2015/16, the sales tax on mobile phones has been doubled up by the government of Pakistan.
Details:
- The tax has increased to Rs. 300, 500 and 1000 from Rs. 150, 250 and 500 respectively on the basis of the specifications and features of the mobile phones.
- Must note that this sales tax does not include the new SIM activation tax, which is already paid up by the telecom operators.
The sales tax on the purchase of new mobile phones in Pakistan as per the budget of 2015-2016 will geniunly affects the people belonging to lower or middle class. May be it is an intentional step to keep the lower class society away from the ground breaking 3G and 4G technology. We just hope that our leaders and government pay a little bit attention towards this step too as it could play a major role in bringing the country towards the success highways.
