Promotional Offers, Unlike Inaami Schemes, Are Not All Banned - Telcos

SimsPK earlier reported its readers that Supreme Court placed a ban on all Inaami / lottery Schemes by all 5 telecom operator companies of Pakistan. The reason was the deceptive nature of the inaami schemes that used to cause huge monetary losses to the individual mobile phone customers of these telcos.

Today, it is said by all mobile phone companies that the ban is not placed on those promotional campaigns that present prize to customers against the usual usage of telecom services at normal tariffs and usual charges of regular tariff plans. SimsPK confirmed the sources of all mobile phone companies and they told us, “Inaami / Lottery Schemes that particularly attract customers to send text messages to a short code or call a number at premium rates are banned according to the judgment of Supreme Court of Pakistan”.

On the other hand, those promotional campaigns and inaami schemes that give reward against usage of conventional telecom services aren’t banned as per the decision of Supreme Court. Furthermore, sources also told us that the court mandated PTA to allow such inaami schemes that give prizes to the customers if they call any number at normal tariff rate or by recharging their balance account with specific amount of load. If customers are rewarded by the usage of their primary services then it does not violate any consumer right and it should be encouraged, as per officials.
